Series rules and race format

These rules cover eligibility, our unique paced format, and general race conduct.

Eligibility

  • Riders must hold at least a valid OC Challenge license by race day. That is the minimum required for insurance and participation. You may sign up now without it, but you will not be permitted to race without valid membership on race day.
  • Riders select the category that best matches their experience level.
  • Experienced category is for riders with prior race experience or those who have graduated from lower categories.

Race format

  • Beginner races target ~45 minutes total with 30 → 32 → 34 km/h timed segments, then ~15 minutes all-out.
  • Intermediate: Neutral lap, then 34 to 36 km/h, then 20-25 minutes all-out.
  • Experienced: all-out from the start.
  • Lap countdown starts with 5 laps to go for all categories.

Category placement

  • Organizers may reassign riders to a different category for safety and fairness.
  • Riders who dominate a lower category may be asked to move up.
  • The goal is safe, competitive racing for every skill level.

Conduct & equipment

  • Standard road racing equipment is required, including helmets.
  • Riders must follow official instructions and course marshals at all times.
  • Dangerous riding, blocking, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in disqualification.

Protests

  • Protests must be submitted to race officials within 15 minutes of your finish.
  • Decisions by officials are final on race day.

Subject to change

  • We intend to test our race formats and categories, gauge responses from participants, and adjust as needed.
  • We understand we are doing something new and will remain open to ensuring a great experience for all.
